AI analysis with your own Anthropic key
Connect your own Anthropic API key, have Claude look at a tree's photos, and review its suggestions before anything is added to your assessment.

On this page
AI analysis sends a tree’s photos to Claude, Anthropic’s AI, which suggests conditions, targets, failure types and mitigation for you to check. It’s a second pair of eyes, not the assessor: you review every suggestion, ratings are always calculated by RootFlare from the likelihoods you choose, and nothing from the AI ever appears in a report.
Add your key
AI analysis uses your account’s own Anthropic API key, so you’re billed by Anthropic directly — roughly 30–40¢ an analysis.
- Create a key at console.anthropic.com.
- In RootFlare, open Settings, then the AI tab (the account owner sees it).
- Paste it into Anthropic API key and click Save and check. The status turns Valid.
Under Daily limit, AI runs per day caps how many analyses and tree identifications run a day, and Spend shows this month’s cost.
Note: Claude is sent the photos, the tree’s details and what’s in the assessment. Never the client’s name, the site address, or your business or personal details.
Analyze a tree
On the tree’s page, click Start AI Tree Analysis. The results appear on its AI Tree Analysis tab after a few minutes, and View Analysis opens one.
The tree needs at least one photo, and AI analysis works online only, not in field mode. You can keep working while it runs.
Review and apply
From View Analysis, either click Start assessment to begin a new assessment with its suggestions, or, under Apply to an assessment, click Review and apply… beside an assessment of the tree you’ve already started. The review screen lists each suggestion with how confident Claude is.
- Suggestions for empty fields and new records are ticked to start with.
- Nothing you’ve already entered changes unless you tick it.
- A risk can be ticked once its failure type and target are.
Click Apply selected. Applied fields carry a small AI badge until you edit them, so you can see what still needs checking on site.
Tip: The same analysis can be applied to a later assessment of the tree without paying for another one.
