Offline tree inspection app

An offline tree inspection app for arborists in the field.

Ravines, back lots and the far end of the park. RootFlare's field mode saves every change on your phone, so you can inspect trees with no signal and sync when you're back in range.

A day on the job

A wooded lot with no bars.

You're assessing a row of oaks on a rural property where your phone has no service. Here's the day in RootFlare.

New assessment on a phone: Add a new tree, a tree search, and a list of trees to choose from.

1. Start offline

Field mode opens without signal. Pick the tree from those on your phone, or add a new one.

Field mode on a phone, showing Saved: the Tree tab with the client and site fields.

2. Know it's saved

The bar at the top says where your work is, from "Offline — saved on this device" to "All changes saved to RootFlare".

Foliage conditions in field mode on a phone: browning marked present at 15 percent, with a note and Add photo buttons.

3. Take every photo

Photos stay on the phone and upload in turn once there's a connection.

The Mitigation tab in field mode on a phone: a pruning recommendation and its residual risk, with the failure types it addresses ticked.

4. Finish the assessment

Ratings are calculated on the phone, offline, by the same risk matrix.

Reports

Back in range, make the report.

As soon as your phone has a connection, your changes and photos sync. Finalize the assessment and make the PDF report from the truck or the office.

The same assessment exported to the Basic Tree Risk Assessment Form, its fields filled in and its boxes ticked.

What's included

Made for places without signal.

Saved on the device

Every change is saved on your phone the moment you make it, before anything is sent.

Always know what's waiting

The status bar shows changes and photos waiting, and says when everything is saved to RootFlare.

Photos queue up

Photos are kept on the device until they upload, and you can see each one waiting and why.

Add trees offline

Record new trees with their photos, and edit a tree's details, without a connection.

Search your trees

Find a tree by tag, species or address from the copy kept on your phone.

Phone, tablet or laptop

Field mode runs in the browser on any device. Add it to your home screen to open it like an app.

Syncs on its own

Changes send when there's a connection. If two devices changed the same field, the newer change wins.

Ratings offline too

The risk matrix runs on the phone, so ratings are there before you sync.

FAQ

Questions arborists ask.

Do I need to do anything before I go offline?

Yes, once per device. Sign in on your phone and open field mode while you have a connection, and wait for it to say Ready for offline use. After that it opens without signal.

What happens to my photos when there's no signal?

They stay on your phone and upload in turn once you're connected. The status bar shows how many are waiting, and Show photos lists each one and why it's waiting.

Can I make a report while I'm offline?

Reports are made once your assessment has synced. Capture everything offline, then finalize and make the report when you're back in range.

Is there an app to install?

No app store download. RootFlare runs in the browser on your phone, tablet or laptop, and you can add it to your home screen.

What if my sign-in expires while I'm out?

Your work stays saved on the device. Sign in again when you can and the waiting changes send.

Take it somewhere with no signal.

Your next assessment saves on your phone, whatever the coverage.
