Tree risk assessment software

Tree risk assessment software for consulting arborists.

Work through a basic tree risk assessment one section at a time on your phone, at the tree. Ratings come from the risk matrix, the record stays with the tree, and the report is made from what you captured.

A day on the job

A silver maple over the driveway.

A homeowner calls about a big silver maple leaning over their driveway and the neighbour's garage. Here's the visit, start to finish, in RootFlare.

New assessment on a phone: Add a new tree, a tree search, and a list of trees to choose from.

1. Pick the tree

Find it in your tree database, or add it on the spot. Its details carry into the new assessment.

The Site tab in field mode on a phone: a site concern marked suspected, with its details.

2. Record the site and targets

The driveway, the garage, how often people are there. Mark each site condition present or suspected.

Foliage conditions in field mode on a phone: browning marked present at 15 percent, with a note and Add photo buttons.

3. Work round the tree

Crown, branches, trunk and roots, each with its conditions, notes and photos.

The Mitigation tab in field mode on a phone: a pruning recommendation and its residual risk, with the failure types it addresses ticked.

4. Rate it and recommend

Failure types are rated by the risk matrix, and each mitigation shows the residual risk it leaves.

Reports

Send the report the same day.

Finalize the assessment and RootFlare turns it into a PDF report, ready to email to the client from the app.

The report: cover, summary, photos and ratings, a PDF you email from the assessment.

What's included

Everything a basic assessment needs.

The whole assessment, tab by tab

Tree, targets, site, crown, branches, trunk, roots, failure types, mitigation and review.

Ratings from the risk matrix

Likelihood of failure, likelihood of impact and consequences combine the same way on every assessment.

Every risk linked

Each failure type is rated against each target it could reach, and the highest sets the overall rating.

Definitions on tap

An info button beside each term shows what it means, in plain words, right in the field.

Checked before it's final

Finalize lists anything missing before you can mark an assessment preliminary or final.

ISA form export

Export to ISA Basic Tree Risk Assessment Form, filled from the same assessment.

The tree's history

Every assessment stays with the tree, so the next visit starts from its record.

Works without signal

Everything saves on your phone first and syncs when you're back online.

FAQ

Questions arborists ask.

Does RootFlare follow the basic tree risk assessment method?

Yes. An assessment records the tree, its site and targets, conditions part by part, the failure types with their likelihood of failure, likelihood of impact and consequences, and mitigation options with their residual risk.

How are the risk ratings calculated?

By a fixed risk matrix. You choose the likelihood of failure, likelihood of impact and consequences, and RootFlare combines them into the rating. A rating is never typed in, and never chosen by AI.

Can RootFlare fill in the ISA Basic Tree Risk Assessment Form?

Yes. Any assessment can be exported to the ISA Basic Tree Risk Assessment Form, filled from the same data as your report. RootFlare is not affiliated with the ISA.

Does it work without cell service?

Yes. Field mode saves every change on your phone and syncs when you have a connection again, so you can assess trees where there's no signal.

What happens when I assess the same tree again?

Each assessment starts fresh from the tree's current details, so every visit is judged on what you see that day. Earlier assessments and their reports stay on the tree's page.

How much does it cost?

Solo, for one arborist, is $49 a month or $490 a year. Crew, for firms, is $119 a month for up to 3 people, then $29 a month for each extra person, or $1,190 a year. Organizations start from $1,500 a year.
