A day on the job
A business park, 180 trees and a spreadsheet.
A property manager wants every tree on their business park checked, and sends over the spreadsheet from the last survey. Here's how it comes together in RootFlare.
1. Bring in their list
Import the spreadsheet into an inventory. Each tree lands on the map, coloured by its latest rating.
2. Each tree, its own record
Tag, species, DBH, height, notes and the client's own ID, ready for every visit.
3. Located from the field
A tree with no coordinates is mapped from the GPS in the photos you take of it.
4. Find any tree's history
Search by client, address, species or tag, and filter by rating, status and date.
What's included
Built for whole properties.
Every tree on one map
Pins coloured Low, Moderate, High or Extreme by each tree's latest rating.
Import CSV, Excel or GeoJSON
Match the file's columns to RootFlare's fields, preview it, then import into an inventory.
Matched, never overwritten
Trees you already have are matched by the client's ID or tag, and only their empty fields are filled.
Export for ArcGIS or QGIS
Download an inventory, or every tree, as GeoJSON or CSV with its latest assessment.
A photo gallery per tree
Numbered photos with arrows, circles and labels drawn on.
Organised by client
Each client's trees, assessments and inventories kept together.
Trees in more than one inventory
A tree can belong to a street survey and a park plan at the same time.
Walk the site offline
Add trees and their photos in field mode without signal; they sync when you're back.
FAQ
Questions arborists ask.
What files can I import?
CSV, Excel (.xlsx) and GeoJSON points, up to 5,000 rows and 10 MB. From a Shapefile, save the layer as CSV or GeoJSON in your GIS first.
Will an import overwrite what I've already recorded?
No. RootFlare matches the file's trees to yours by the client's ID or tag, fills in only fields that are empty, and adds the rest as new trees. You see a preview, with any problem rows, before anything is saved.
Can I take the inventory back into ArcGIS or QGIS?
Yes. Export an inventory, or every tree in your account, as GeoJSON or CSV. Each tree comes with its location, details and its latest preliminary or final assessment.
Do I need a GPS unit?
No. A tree uses its own coordinates when you've entered them, otherwise the location in the newest geotagged photo you took of it.
Who is RootFlare for, the arborist or the property manager?
It's built for the arborist who walks the trees and writes the reports. Campuses, HOAs and property teams with their own arborists use the Organizations plan, from $1,500 a year.
Put your next property on the map.
Start your next inventory in RootFlare and hand the client a map, not a spreadsheet.
