How it works

Do the paperwork at the tree, not at your desk.

RootFlare puts the tree's record, a full Tree Risk Assessment and an AI first look on your phone. What you capture in the field becomes the report, so there's nothing to type up back at the office.

Step 1 · Tree database

Every tree keeps its own record.

Add a tree once and it's ready for every visit after: its details, photos, location and history in one place, on your phone.

A tree's page on a phone: its photo, tag 103, Silver Maple, DBH, height, last assessed Moderate Risk, client, inventory and notes, with New Assessment, Edit Tree and Start AI Analysis buttons.

Add the tree once

Tag, species, DBH, height, client, inventories and notes, with its last rating at a glance.

The tree's photo gallery on a phone: numbered photos of the trunk and leaves, one with a defect circled in orange.

Markup photos

Every tree has a numbered gallery. Circle a defect or add an arrow and a label right on the photo.

The tree's location on a phone: a street map with the tree pinned, the coordinates noted as coming from a photo, and the address.

Tree location mapping

Trees are automatically mapped for location. Tree pins are used for inventories and risk management.

The tree's AI analysis on a phone: a written summary of the tree's site, defects and decay, citing photo numbers, with the photos sent and the cost.

AI analysis

With your own Anthropic key, Claude reads the tree's data and performs an analysis.

Step 2 · Assessments

A full tree risk assessment, right on your phone.

Field mode takes you through the Basic Tree Risk Assessment one tab at a time: tree, targets, site, crown, branches, trunk, roots, risk and mitigation. It saves on the phone as you go and syncs when there's signal.

New assessment on a phone: Add a new tree, a tree search, and a list of trees to choose from.

Start from the tree

Pick the tree from your database or add a new one. Its details carry into the assessment.

Works offline

Every change is saved. Data is sync'd to the cloud when a connection is detected.

The Site tab in field mode on a phone: a site concern marked suspected, with its details.

Track your observations

Mark each condition present or suspected and add the details, or tick no concerns and move on.

Foliage conditions in field mode on a phone: browning marked present at 15 percent, with a note and Add photo buttons.

Detail where it matters

Tap a condition, then add a percentage, a note and photos from the camera or the tree's gallery.

AI insights

Suggestions you verify, then apply.

Review every suggestion from the analysis beside the photos it came from. Tick what's right and it fills in the assessment: targets, conditions, failure modes and mitigation. Each applied field wears an AI badge until you edit it, so you always know what you've checked.

  • Nothing goes in until you tick it
  • The risk matrix still calculates every rating
  • Less paperwork and more assessing

Verify and apply findings

Verify and apply findings. All values can be edited.

The Mitigation tab in field mode on a phone: a pruning recommendation and residual risk marked AI, with the failure modes it addresses ticked.

Mitigation, linked up

Mitigation with its residual risk, ticked against the failure modes it addresses.

Step 3 · Inventories

Track every tree and every visit.

Group trees for a property, a street or a park and see the whole job on one map. Every assessment stays searchable, so the next visit starts from the last one. Already have the client's tree list in a GIS? Bring it in, and take it back out when you're done.

  • Each pin coloured by the tree's latest rating
  • Search assessments by client, address, species or tag, and filter by status, rating and date
  • Each client's trees, assessments and inventories kept together
  • Import a client's tree list from CSV, GeoJSON or Excel into an inventory, matched to the trees you already have
  • Export an inventory, or every tree, as GeoJSON or CSV for ArcGIS or QGIS

The whole job on a map

The Assessments list on a phone: search and filters for status, rating, client and dates, and an assessment rated Moderate Risk, Final.

Every assessment, findable

Search and filter every assessment, each with its rating and status.

Reports

Reports your clients will want to read.

Every assessment becomes a polished PDF: a cover page with the tree, the overall rating and your recommendation, then the details, photos and ratings behind it. Add a filled ISA form if you like.
